Carolyn Fernberg, Assistant Principal
Ms. Fernberg was born and raised in
Meadville, Pennsylvania, a small town north of Pittsburgh. After graduating
from high school she began her college years at Southern Illinois University
and later transferred to Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. After
completing her Bachelor’s Degree she moved to Fort Myers and began teaching
at the elementary level in Hendry County. After completing her Master’s
degree in Educational Leadership she was selected to be the principal for
the LaBelle Adult Community School and later as Coordinator of Federal
Programs. During this time she continued with her post-graduate studies and
completed all the course work and exams for the Ed.D. program except for the
dissertation. When she began her family she took some time off to be a
“stay-at-home” mom and work on her dissertation.
When it was time to return to the “work
force” she joined the Lee County school system as a teacher at Sunshine
Elementary where she taught second, third, and fourth grades. During this
time she was a finalist in the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Program two
consecutive years, 1995 and 1996.
She then moved to Lehigh Senior High and
taught eighth grade Reading. When Varsity Lakes Middle opened as a new
school she accepted a position as a sixth grade Reading teacher. She
completed post-graduate classes to gain Reading endorsement and later gained
Exceptional Student Education. She then became the Behavior Specialist at
VLMS. During this time she served as the School Advisory chairperson,
advisor to the National Junior Honor Society, and a member of the leadership
team.
She was selected as assistant principal in
January, 2008 and is excited to begin her first full year as an assistant
principal. Having been at the school since it opened, she is familiar with
the facility, staff, students, and many parents. She is looking forward to
being a member of the administrative team to serve the parents and students
at VLMS.
