AVID
AVID, an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an international program which helps prepare students for college. This program is an academic, regularly scheduled elective class, during the school day, based on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. Focus on tutoring, reading and organization are included, as well. Students are required to complete an AVID application and be interviewed by AVID site team members, usually in the spring, before the following school year. AVID's main focus is to help VLMS students reach their academic goals and begin working toward continuing their education after high school.
